Open Content

Index Data created indexes on several databases and offer them as free service. One can use SRU and Z39.50 protocols to connect to these resources.

Those databases are:

The Open Directory Project, Project Gutenberg, Open Archive Initiatives/OAIster, several databaes within Open Content Alliance, and wikipedia.

Test their demo at Index Data Masterkey. You can also limit search results by subject, author, date, and the target location/specific database.
